Alternative Learning System - Education and Skills Training Program (ALS-EST)

Alternative Learning System - Education and Skills Training Program (ALS-EST)

ALS-EST is one of Department of Education's non-formal education programs. It is a variant of the Alternative Learning System, DepEd’s main vehicle for non-formal education. ALS-EST systematically integrates a skills training component into the standard academic ALS Curriculum.

With non-formal education, DepEd seeks to bridge the gap for those who have not completed basic education.

ALS-EST offers out-of-school youth and adults an even chance of self-improvement and a productive life.

Currently on its pilot year phase (2018 to present), it has 98 implementing schools that combine the ALS K to 12 Curriculum with their Technical Vocational Livelihood offerings.

An important component of the preparation of the ILA is the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). RPL is important for ensuring that the learning intervention will build on competencies and experiences that they are already familiar with. RPL will also ensure that learnings sessions will be relevant to the current needs of the learner. Below are the specific forms used for RPL.

RPL 1 - Documentation of Life Experience
This form contains a documentation of the learner’s relevant life experiences, which may affect their learner. Details that should be documented include learner’s interests, hobbies, strengths, weaknesses, ambition/s, and family, among others.

Assessment 1 - Individual Learning Agreement
The Individual Learning Agreement (ILA) is a plan that will be developed by the Learning Facilitator and each Learner. The plan records what the learner wants to learn (learning goals) and how (learning activities and strategies) and when (timeline) the learner wants to achieve the learning goals. Furthermore, this form guides the Learning Facilitator in the review of learning goals of the Learner—whether these were achieved, not achieved, or modified. It also helps the Learning Facilitator provide appropriate learning interventions to the Learner. READ MORE Download

Record of module use and monitoring of learner’s progress
In this form, the learner records each learning module he or she completed, the learning strand to which the learning module belongs, the date of accomplishment, the results of the pre-test and post-test, and other related activities accomplished. The learner is asked to reflect on his or her performance, identify personal strengths and weaknesses, and suggest ways to overcome difficulties that may have been encountered. The learning facilitator will also evaluate the learner’s performance and provide feedback on the learner’s level of mastery of the module contents. This form can be accomplished in Filipino or in English.
