Clarifications on the Recognition of Academic Excellence Awardees per DepEd Order No. 36, s. 2016
1. The Department of Education (DepEd) reiterates the provisions of DepEd order
No. 36, s. 201-6 titled Policy Guidelines on Awards Recognition for the K to 12 Basic
Education Program. This Order emphasizes that formal recognition of learners'
outstanding performance and achievement must be done in a manner that encourages
them to strive for excellence and to become proactive members of the school community'
As applied to the announcement of Academic Excellence awards in written media or in
ceremonies, this necessitates that learners who have garnered similar awards must be
treated in a fair, impartial, and non-hierarchical manner.
2. This Department orders that the announcement of learners who have been
awarded Academic Excellence Awards (i.e., with Honors, with High Honors, with
Highest Honors) must be made in alphabetical order within categories, not from highest
to lowest average grade within categories. For example, given three learners awarded
With Honors:
Name of Learners Average Grade
Aragon, Margarita 92
Dela Cruz, Juana 91
Zaragosa, Jesus 94
The name of learner Margarita Aragon shall be announced first, followed by
Juana Dela Cruz and Jesus Zaragosa.
3. Immediate dissemination of this Memorandum is desired.
